Using a Cintiq to draw on is a joy, but it does have a few fiddly differences from regular pencil to paper. The main one to notice is how your hand glides across the surface when leaning on the tablet.
Paper has a very specific texture that has just enough grip to keep your hand still when it needs anchoring, and enough smoothness to glide for long sweeping curves.
The Cintiq on the other hand likes to behave like an odd piece of glass. When your hands are hot, it’ll stick to the surface, and when too cold, they’ll slip all over the place.
To regulate it, I use a cotton glove with the fingers trimmed from the gripping fingers. A lot of the old Disney cleanup artists use to do this to prevent smudging their pencil work. You can actually buy Cintiq gloves online for around 30-40 bucks, but a 99c pair of cotton gloves and a pair of scissors works just as well. Buy a pair and that’s less than 50c a glove!
I’ve been working on a little side project lately called Streak.ly. It’s intended to help you stay on top of things you’d like to do daily. If that sounds interesting to you, why not head on over and snag a spot on the beta list? It’s right this way.
I’ve been helping Kyle get a few odds & ends together for Streak.ly. Go jump on the beta list.
In other news, Tackle! is doing marvellously. Keep your eyes peeled.
As an illustration major I must say that it is truly inspiring to see you doing what you do. Keep it up, and maybe stop by Savannah and give me an inspirational kick to stay motivated. p.s. can you draw me a skunk? :D
I like kicking. Savannah will happen on a tour leg.
A print/painting idea. Obviously prettier and with some planned composition. Yes?
Edit// I forgot to stress that this was a rough two minute scribble. The ACTUAL piece will have some TLC put into the color & composition.
