The invite-only web is starting to irritate me. I love exclusive communities and I love new technology, but I do not like waiting to get in somewhere only to finally to get in and realize no one else I care about is in there so the entire social aspect is busted. Case in point: Google Wave.

I second this. There was a good time where there was a reason to keep it exclusive to legitimate developers and people that mattered. As a means to test and shoot feedback before releasing scaled versions to the public. Now it’s just a thing to generate buzz & hype.

That being said, I missed when twitter was invite only. It was free of noise, internet fame/idiots.
